Surveying magnetic locators are an essential tool in every surveyor’s arsenal. You need a tough, reliable, and simple solution, which is why we carry both SubSurface Instruments and Schonstedt magnetic locators. Both manufacturers back their survey pin locators with a 7-year warranty, with products designed for easy, one-handed operation. We adhere to a commitment to supply high-quality products to our customers, and we can speak to the quality and durability of every pin finder and magnetic locator we sell.
A magnetic locator is the preferred tool for finding survey pins, corner markers, and rebar. Instruments like the SubSurface ML-3 offer superior sensitivity and depth detection, making it easy to locate pins buried several feet below the surface.
Magnetic locators are specialized instruments used to detect buried ferrous metal objects such as iron, steel, and rebar. They’re essential tools for surveyors locating property corners, underground utilities, and other hidden metallic targets that a standard metal detector might miss.
A surveying magnetic locator detects objects made of ferrous metals. This means that magnetic locators are the ideal solution to find property pines and live wires.
A magnetic locator detects only ferrous metals – materials containing iron or steel – and measures changes in the Earth’s magnetic field. A metal detector, on the other hand, detects a broader range of metals, including aluminum and copper, but is less effective for deep, pinpoint detection of survey markers.
The ML-1 and ML-3 magnetic locators are capable of detecting ferrous metal objects to depths of up to 10’ deep.
All of the subsurface instruments we sell are backed by 7 years of warranty.
Most magnetic locators are factory-calibrated and require little maintenance. However, it’s recommended to test your locator before each field use to confirm accuracy. Keep the device clean, store it in a protective case, and avoid exposure to strong magnets when not in use.
