Tilt Surveying

There is nothing more practical and versatile than an internal tilt sensor- and with the BRx7’s design, you can get up to 60° of tilt, with 2 cm of compensation at 30° or 5 cm at 60°. Gone are the struggles of pole-levelling!

It supports up to 30° of pole tilt, with 2 cm of compensation accuracy at 30° off vertical. In practice, that means routine topo shots with the pole slightly off level stay well within a couple centimeters, while shots taken at an aggressive lean (working around an obstruction, for example) carry more uncertainty and are worth a second look before you rely on them for anything you can’t afford to reshoot.

It means the receiver can log raw GNSS observation data over an extended occupation for post-processing later, rather than resolving a position in real time against a base or network. This matters for establishing control points where you need geodetic-grade accuracy without RTK infrastructure nearby, you set up, log for an extended session, then process the data afterward (through a service like OPUS or your own baseline processing). Most day-to-day RTK survey work won’t touch this feature, but it’s there if you need to establish your own control from scratch.

Treat the published spec as the performance of a new battery, not a guarantee for a used one. Lithium batteries lose capacity with age and charge cycles regardless of how well the receiver itself was maintained, so a used BRx7’s real-world runtime depends on how heavily the batteries were used before you got it. Ask what condition grade the batteries themselves are in (not just the receiver) before you buy, and budget for replacement batteries as a possible near-term cost if the unit has seen heavy prior use.

Ask for the specifics before buying rather than assuming based on the label alone, grading terms like these aren’t standardized industry-wide, so what one seller calls “Very Good” another might call something else entirely. Confirm what was actually inspected (cosmetic condition, battery health, calibration, included accessories) and whether the unit was function-tested before listing, that detail matters more than the grade name itself when you’re deciding between two used units at different price points.
